The Nationwide Building Society is the largest building society in the world and it maintains its headquarters in Swindon, England. The Nationwide Building Society also has a number of divisions: Cheshire Building Society, Derbyshire Building Society, Dunfermline Building Society and the Nationwide Independent Financial Services Ltd.
The Nationwide Building Society was originally called the Co-operative Permanent Building Society. The building society has over one million members. The first debit card to be released by a building society was achieved by the nationwide building society, and it was also the first building society to launch the UK's first internet banking service (1997).

The West Bromwich Building Society is a member of the Building Societies Association. The building society was the official sponsor of the West Bromwich Albion F.C. football team from 1997 to 2004.
The Principality Building Society is based in Wales and it is the largest building society in Wales. The Principality Building Society is one of the few building societies that are owned by its members rather than shareholders making it a mutual building society.
The Newcastle Building Society is a member of the Building Societies Association and it was formed in 1980. It merged with the Universal Building Society in 2006.
The Norwich & Peterborough Building Society has over £4.9billion assets and the building society is mainly based in East Anglia, but it has branches all over England and even has a branch located in Gibraltar.
